The Cloth Closet at Tailoresque is a small, curated collection of deadstock fabrics. The fabrics came from a local well-established shop, sadly no longer operating, and once they’re gone there will be no repeats. We sell from our physical shop based within the atelier, with visits by appointment. It aligns well with our values in sustainability and circular practices. The craftswoman / Tailoresque
Gill Marais brings 20+ years of garment expertise.
Tailoresque & The Cloth Closet approaches clothing as material memory. Founded by Poole-based craftswoman Gill Marais, the studio grew from a lifelong love of making clothes and a refusal to accept the damage caused by disposable fashion.
Gill began making garments at school, later gained a BA in Costume Construction at the Royal Opera House, and now combines a lifetime of practical skill with MA Sustainable Fashion studies. In the former H Baldwin & Son tailoring premises on Longfleet Road, the team treats every alteration, repair, bridal fitting and bespoke project as problem-solving in service of longevity.
